Rainy Days, Happy Dogs

Most of the year on southern Vancouver Island feels like one long, gentle rinse. From October through April, the rain sets the rhythm of every walk, every park visit, and every backyard game of fetch. For active dogs — herding breeds, working dogs, retrievers, even the occasional determined terrier — a wet week without structured exercise can mean restless evenings, weight gain, and the kind of pent-up energy that lands as chewed baseboards.

PAWformance Victoria was built around that reality. Our mobile dog treadmill studio parks in your driveway, runs quietly on standard power, and brings a controlled, climate-conditioned workout to where your dog already feels safe. The treadmill pace is dialed in for the individual dog: warm-up walking for seniors, steady trotting for working breeds, and on-the-lead recovery work for post-surgical pups whose vets want them moving without the impact of a wet trail.

What changes in the rainy season isn't the dog's need to move — it's the available surface to move on. Wet grass tears at recovering knees. Slippery boardwalks stress shoulders. Soggy paws bring mud inside that, when swallowed, can irritate sensitive stomachs. By taking the workout off the footpath and onto a calibrated treadmill surface, we keep the dog moving through conditions that would otherwise force an off-week.

If you've been watching your dog slow down when the rain hits, our waitlist is the first step. We're getting ready to open the van doors across Greater Victoria, and being on the waitlist means you'll hear from us first. We also work alongside vet clinic partners across the region whose patients need structured conditioning as part of recovery and senior strength plans — Janet trains alongside clinic recommendations so the work between visits stays consistent. To learn about the routines we run, you can read about our services and how we'll tailor a plan to your dog's age, breed, and fitness level.

PAWformance Victoria is a First Nations-owned service on Songhees and Esquimalt territory, and a portion of every booking goes back to community canine wellness through partner clinics. Until launch, the best way to support what we're building is to share the story with another dog owner, drop your email onto the waitlist, and tell your vet we exist. We'll see you — and your wet, wagging dog — when the van pulls up.

Occasional field notes, canine fitness tips, and launch updates. No spam.
