Trail repeats up Mount Douglas.
Hill work builds the rear-end drive and aerobic base every working dog needs. Mount Doug's steady grade is the closest outdoor gym we've got — and our conditioning plans start here.
Greater Victoria walks that shape how our dogs move, recover, and stay conditioned year-round. We list the trails we'll plan sessions around — starting with Mount Douglas, the Uplands off-leash beach, and the Esquimalt Lagoon loop.
Greater Victoria is a conditioning gym most people walk past every day — Garry oak meadows, ocean-edge pavement, lagoon sand, and steady grade climbs that turn leash time into real work. Our place-based sessions build off-leash drive, stretch the aerobic base, and give rehab dogs the varied footing they need to trust their bodies again. Alongside Mount Doug, we plan sessions on the Uplands off-leash beach and the Esquimalt Lagoon loop — flat sand, full stride, and the waterfront setting that's shaped how our dogs move for generations.

Uplands' flat sand and full stride is the closest thing to a treadmill-free sprint our dogs get — and the ocean air turns warm-up into recovery. It's where we build the off-leash drive that makes every other trail feel easier.
The Garry oak meadow on Discovery Island offers springy turf and shaded cover that take load off growing joints. It's where we set up off-leash conditioning work for younger and rehab dogs who need the work without the impact of hill or beach.
The lagoon loop's flat, packed sand and slow grade make it the lowest-impact conditioning surface in our rotation — easy on growing joints and rehab cases. We use it to build steady aerobic volume and let older or post-injury dogs hold a working pace without the load of hill or sprint work.
